Scammed? New Book Reveals How Easy You Can Be Scammed
Jamaican Author R. George Riggon Has New Book Released by Headline Books, Inc.

Everyone with an email address has probably received at least one message like this:

"You have won a lot of money in a sweepstakes. To collect it, you must wire some money to pay to have your prize released and cover taxes and other fees."

Messages like that are fraudulent and they’re the jumping-off point for a new novel just released by Headline Books Inc.
Scammed by R. George Riggon is an original work of fiction set between western Jamaica and the West Midlands city of Birmingham, England. It picks up echoes of the emerging global phenomena of “sweepstakes lotto” scams in which the instigators are in one part of the world while the unsuspecting and faceless victim is far away. The plot builds upon the breathtaking speed of modern information technology as provided by the use of computers and cell phones that bridge the physical gap of global distance. With just a few phone calls and in a matter of a few minutes at an international money transfer facility the scam was instigated. The deep human anguish of being deceived for the victim stands in stark contrast to the elation of the triumph for the scam artist.

“I hope my readers will find it enjoyable, informative and even a little funny despite the seriousness of this subject,” Riggon said.

Riggon is a Jamaica native who holds a degree in sociology and social research from University of Central England in Birmingham and a master’s degree in race and ethnic relations from Warwick University.
